ARTFUL RESOLUTIONS

"Carolina Snowfall"

I'm not one to make New Year's Resolutions... Unfortunately, I've learned from past experience that I don't follow through very well on my best intentions!

But this year I hope will be different for me! I'm feeling the need to define what I'm doing art-wise better & simplify, simplify, simplify!! I want to clean out my studio & make it a cozy place to create (instead of a cluttered place just to store art supplies!). I want to step away from my computer & rediscover the joys of quiet time set aside just for sketching and journaling.

Most of all, I want to listen to my own heart & create art that reflects ME... and pleases GOD.

** As YOU enter the New Year, what are YOUR Artful Resolutions?... and how do you hope to achieve them???

Perhaps we can encourage one another as we grow as artists in the coming year!!

Patti, I believe the Lord is going to bless your simplifying time. Quieting our hearts and minds to hear the Lord is a good thing.

In the morning I was planning to set goals for the day, for the week, for the year? I purchased a art journal yesterday to keep me accountable. I felt like this will help me keep focused..have a heart check...and see where the Lord leads me.

I think encouraging each other is a wonderful idea!

Hi Patti! Glad to see you posting on your blog! How is Facebook going? I haven't been on it that much...been blogging more. Yes...simplifying sounds good! And thinking about what God wants...

Wishing you many artful blessings in the New Year!!

Simplifying always sounds good to me as I sit in my cluttered office. About every 6 months, I say to my husband...I am just gonna give it away! LOL Sometimes I give some of it away...other times, I just hold on and see what happens. Usually, more mess builds up. :) Oh, well! So it goes.
Happy New Years to you! :)

Patti, how's it going? I would love an uncluttered habitat, but so far it's not happening. I just don't keep the resolutions that I make, I think they are character defects any way. Happy New year! even if I am 12 days late.

Well, I'm nearing the end of January '09 & taking some baby steps in a positive direction! So far...

*I've cleaned my studio (tho I still need to toss out a lot of things "I might find a use for someday" ;) )... still searching for my "comfy" chair!

*I've been journaling about my goals & desires Art-wise and praying about what the Lord desires for me (Amy I LOVE your term, "heart check"!... That is EXACTLY the right phrase!).

*I've been experimenting with PaintShop Pro, trying to learn how to create my own clip art from my line drawings (something I've wanted to do for a loooong time!).

*I've closed my CafePress shop (which I really wasn't enjoying) & opened a Zazzle shop instead (so much more user-friendly!... YAY!).

*And I've begun thinking about what my preschool work for next year might look like. I LOVE my community of friends there & the "work" of nurturing little ones feels so important to me! I'm thankful for the possibility of redefining my work there in light of the gifts & talents the Lord has given to me!

THANK YOU to ALL for your comments & encouragement! What a GIFT & JOY it is to have friends who, like me, LOVE to CREATE! :)

Being part of an encouraging art community has made ALL the difference in my art and my life this year. I would go so far as to say that it, along with prayer, has saved me from depression, resentment and overwhelming anxiety.
Adorably uplifting blog you have and I hope you'll come follow mine too :-) blessings, Karen
